The origins of TSSN
TSSN is a metalworking company that manufactures enclosures and related components for transformers.
Royal SMIT Transformers in Nijmegen is a global player in the production of large power transformers. In the past, up until the 1990s, Royal SMIT Transformers produced its own transformer enclosures. These so-called “transformer cabinets” were built with expertise and craftsmanship in the department known as De Kastenmakerij (the cabinet workshop). Due to growth and market forces, a decision was made to outsource the production of transformer enclosures abroad.
Over the years, several employees of Royal SMIT Transformers started working at Metaal Groep Mook. As a result, the knowledge and craftsmanship were preserved, especially because Metaal Groep Mook eventually resumed producing components for Royal SMIT Transformers. This led to a long-term collaboration between the two companies.
Due to the energy transition, demand for power transformers has increased, and with it the demand for transformer enclosures. This prompted Metaal Groep Mook and Royal SMIT Transformers to jointly establish a new company called TSSN.
TSSN stands for Transformer Steel Structures Nijmegen. At TSSN, knowledge, experience, and craftsmanship are applied in a modern way in the Netherlands, at the Bijsterhuizen site in Nijmegen.
